Commonwealth War Graves Foundation, Florence, Italy

In 1922, Spanish-American philosopher George Santayana wrote: “Only the dead have seen the end of war.” However, if we view the end of war in the broadest of terms, it is the living, the ones who remained and whose hearts still beat long after the last bombs dropped that have truly seen the end of war. These are the second casualties because they had to step forward, out of the darkness in order to survive; while at the same time, live with the memory of those whom they loved and who made the ultimate sacrifice.

Memorials allow the living to honor the dead and show they will never be forgotten. To learn more about the important work of the World War II Memorial Fund in Florence, Italy, or to donate to the foundation, please follow the Read More link below.
